Martín-Verdugo Duo
Spanish Guitar & Castanets
Bio
The Martín-Verdugo Duo represents the union of the two most iconic instruments of Spanish culture: the castanets and the Spanish guitar. This musical fusion stands out for its ability to capture the soul of Spanish music, from the roots of folklore to the most refined compositions of the classical repertoire. Through the classical guitar, melodies full of lyricism and precision unfold, while the castanets, with their vibrant and elegant percussion, add a rhythmic layer that enhances and complements each piece. Together, they create a unique sonic experience that honors tradition and masterfully reinvents it.
Javier Verdugo, a renowned master of classical guitar, is a benchmark in his field thanks to his impeccable technique and profound command of the Spanish repertoire. His sensitive and precise playing has positioned him as one of the most prominent figures in the guitar scene. Tomás Martín, meanwhile, is one of today's most innovative and captivating castanet soloists. His virtuosity and revolutionary approach have captured the attention of contemporary composers, who have begun to create new works specifically for the instrument. Together, they form the Martín-Verdugo Duo, a unique combination that elevates the castanet and the guitar to new artistic heights.
They made their debut at the 35th Ponferrada International Guitar Festival. Upcoming engagements include concerts in Australia, Colombia, Romania, Italy, the 38th León Spanish Music Festival, and concerts for the Ávila Provincial Council.
