SPANISH MUSIC FOR STRING QUINTET AND CASTANETS

Press review of  Norte de Castilla newspaper:  premiere Pasotango Iº Simancas Symphony Festival by José María Morate

The Camerata Iberycas was skilful accompanying and notable in the two issues of 'Suite Bergidum' by María José Cordero (especially 'Valle del silencio', echoes of 'Dies irae' in viola and cello solos, and violin I with Andalusian flavor) and 'Oración del Torero' by Turina. All with warm welcome, forcing to add soloist and orchestra, vibrant prelude to 'The Wedding of Luis Alonso'. 30/09/2022

Bio

The IberyCAS SEXtet aims to bring a breath of fresh air to the current Spanish music scene. This unique ensemble unites a string quintet with castanets as the solo instrument, focusing on promoting Spanish chamber music repertoire, particularly pieces that feature castanets as the soloist.

Our mission is to inspire and invite Spanish composers to expand the repertoire for this distinctive group. We have already taken significant steps in this direction by premiering "The Spanish Fantasy for Castanets and Chamber Orchestra" by Joaquín Gericó. Additionally, composer Flores Chaviano has graciously arranged four movements of "The Spanish Suite" by Isaac Albéniz for our sextet, which we performed in Zamora, Arévalo, and Segovia, alongside "Sonatas y Fandango" by Padre Soler.

The summer festival in the town of Simancas has chosen the IberyCAS SEXtet as the resident ensemble for the 2021/2024 seasons, where we will premiere "Pasotango" by composer María José Cordero. We have also been invited to participate in the 30th edition of the International Music Festival in Medina del Campo, concert series at the Liceo de Salamanca, Benevivere Theater in León, a concert in Zumárraga, and performances for the Philharmonic Societies of Burgos and Aranda de Duero. Additionally, we will be featured in the "Music and Heritage" program by the Provincial Council of Burgos.

All members of the IberyCAS SEXtet are musicians from the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra.
